Wood privacy fence installation

Pressure-treated pine privacy, board-on-board, shadowbox, picket, horizontal and split-rail fences — usually the lowest-cost way to get full privacy, with a traditional look.

Styles

Wood fence styles we build

Modern wood privacy fence
  • Board-on-board — overlapping boards for full privacy with no gaps
  • Shadowbox — boards alternate on each side, so it looks finished from both sides and lets some air through
  • Privacy (stockade-style) — the classic backyard privacy fence
  • Horizontal — a modern look for patios and pool decks
  • Picket — front yards and gardens
  • Split rail — open boundary fencing for larger lots
Be realistic

The honest tradeoff with wood in Florida

Wood usually has the lowest upfront cost for full privacy. In exchange it needs more care than vinyl or aluminum: Florida humidity, sprinklers and termites are hard on lumber, so expect sealing or staining and some board or post replacement over the years.

A few habits make a real difference: keep sprinklers from soaking the boards, keep mulch and soil off the bottom of the fence, and seal or stain once the new lumber has dried out — we’ll tell you when.

HOA and city color rules: some communities restrict wood colors. Wellington, for example, allows wood fences in natural, clear-coat or painted beige, gray or white finishes (black, gray or white inside the Equestrian Preserve Area and along major thoroughfares).

Pricing

What affects the price of a wood fence

  • Total linear footage and fence height
  • Style, color and material grade
  • Number, width and type of gates
  • Removing and hauling away an existing fence (a separate line item)
  • Site conditions — slopes, tree roots, rock, tight access, installing on a wall
  • Permit requirements, and in Miami-Dade and Broward the stricter High-Velocity Hurricane Zone product rules
  • HOA material, color and height restrictions
  • Board-on-board, shadowbox and horizontal styles use more material than a basic privacy fence

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Pressure-treated wood is generally the lowest-cost full-privacy option. The final price depends on footage, height, style, gates and site conditions.

Board-on-board overlaps the boards for full privacy. Shadowbox alternates boards on each side, looks the same from both sides and lets some air through, with a little less privacy.

It depends on the lumber, ground contact, sprinklers and upkeep. Wood generally needs more maintenance and earlier board and post replacement than vinyl or aluminum.

Sealing or staining helps wood hold up to Florida weather. Wait until the new lumber has dried out; we’ll give you timing for your fence.

In most South Florida cities, yes. We check your city’s rules and coordinate the permit and HOA paperwork.
