Martin County fence rules that apply in Palm City
Palm City has no city government of its own — Martin County issues the fence permit. On Palm City’s mix of riverfront and larger lots, these county limits come up most:
| Rule | What the county requires |
|---|---|
| Wetlands and preserve areas | No fencing without written approval from the county’s Growth Management Department |
| Riverfront lots | Fences stay 25 feet from navigable water unless they run perpendicular to the shoreline |
| Corner lots | Fence built within the building setbacks |
| Old Palm City CRA | Front-yard fences meet the CRA’s design standards |

Riverfront lots, larger acreage and Old Palm City
On lots along the St. Lucie River and other navigable water, the county keeps fences at least 25 feet from the waterway unless the fence runs perpendicular to the shoreline. Older parts of town fall inside the Old Palm City Community Redevelopment Area, where front-yard fences must meet the CRA’s design standards, height and materials. On larger properties, wetland and preserve areas can’t be fenced without written approval from the county.
We map those limits on your survey before we price the fence.

Permitting a fence in Palm City
The fence is permitted through Martin County’s Building Department. Once it’s built, the installer or owner-builder closes the permit with the county’s Fence Affidavit of Completion, certifying height, placement, waterway and easement rules. A fence that doubles as a pool barrier gets a county inspection instead. We handle the paperwork for your project.
